"I have coached for over 20 years, and I am still competitively rowing (over 30 years). Decent Rowing has been the best source to help me coach and learn. It is not so much that you have taught me new techniques, but your information has helped me crystallize what I have been taught by others, and Decent Rowing has given me new ways to explain what we are trying to accomplish. Our most recent end result has been 3 boats in the finals including a Bronze Medal at US High School National Championships. Decent Rowing helped the team accomplish this goal."

"Behind the modestly understated name, Decent Rowing brings a remarkable collection of video demonstrations and discussions that make your rowing better. From form on an ergo, to blade and body technique in every phase of the stroke, they efficiently teach you how to move a rowing shell faster. What a great resource!"

Jeremy Smith"I stumbled across Decent Rowing 5 or 6 years ago and really enjoy the content that comes through frequently."
"I think it's thoroughly worthwhile. Our club has actually joined. Most of our members at any level enjoy what comes through." "At our club, we find that we don't have the luxury of having coaches all the time out there on the lake with us. We really rely on the content from Decent Rowing. The remote coaching lets us hone in on things and develop as time goes on." |
Neroli Ellis and Lou Archer"Their videos are essential as part of my rowing training"
"If you are struggling with one part of your rowing, just look for the video that focuses on that element, watch is several times over, it's available for you, make the most of it" |
Fiona Woolcock"As a novice coach being able to refer to the Decent Rowing videos has been invaluable"

"Thank you for the terrific content. At 48, I’ve just bought my first boat (Peinert 26) and am having the time of my life on the water. Your content is the best there is that I’ve found. I appreciate your clear instruction, the on-the-water shots, and the breadth and depth of your knowledge. So…. Thanks again, from very far across the pond."
- Peter Lakis - Maine, United States. |
"What you are doing is amazing and wonderful. I know it’s a heck of work and it’s a huge effort to come up with this amount of first-class content in high quality and density. Apart from all - you have and are changing my view of rowing, technique, and philosophy substantially!! Thank you for this. Your drills, suggestions, videos are amazing. Thank you for your work, your effort, and your great library. You have helped me a lot this year to improve my catch, to improve my position in the boat and to let go of old preconceptions of how we should be rowing." Isa Scheunpflug @tokkigram2.0 - Hong Kong

David KidwellWhy did I engage a remote coach?
As a Master’s sculler in a non-metropolitan area, coaches are few and far between. Self-coaching through watching videos and the plethora of information that is now on the internet had enabled me to get so far but I felt that I had definitely reached a plateau. I approached Decent Rowing because they have given so much to the rowing community through their amazing video library but I hadn’t realised that they also offered remote coaching. My coaching in the past had been someone in a launch on a day-today basis and I was concerned that not having the coach right there on the water next to me wouldn’t work - it proved just the opposite. A weekly ‘Teams/Zoom’ review of a couple of minutes of video was more than enough to highlight areas that needed work and explanation of the drills that would help make the change (yes, sculling technique has changed in the last three decades!). The added benefit was that it makes you more responsible to make the change rather than a coach next right next to you shouting ‘yes’, ‘yes’, ‘no’, no’ and that responsibility means the change is more likely to be permanent when the coach isn’t there. I am not sure that the provision of the training programme has suffered from being set out on a remote basis but the use of ‘Training Peaks’, a sports training software which allows the coach to set the sessions on a day-by-day basis and the athlete to record their effort using an HR monitor, has completely changed the way I see and complete my training. I can now see when I am tired, how fitness is improving and how form is peaking as I near an event. Remote coaching has also provided me with someone to talk to who is ‘on my team’ and has my best interests as heart without any of the ‘politics’ that are often around clubs. They help me prepare for an event, give guidance to the best set up for my boat (which changes as my technique, fitness and strength improve) and raise my aspirations of what is possible. |
