The first movement is you just push straight back
the critical thing though if i hang onto the handle and guide you is that that if you you push back there then you push back to that half slide and then then you want to open up and pull that okay but not before you want to get that first bit right i'll show you why if i'm going to hang on it's really hard i want you to push
okay now bend your arms no don't stop pushing, no come into the catch again
i want you to push as hard as you can when i say and when i want you to keep pushing and then i want you to try and bend your arms i'll tell you when okay so push harder, really hard to do isn't it
lets try something else
this time i want you to pull your shoulder back into the socket when I tell you know remember that pull them back now for me, that's the go now push really really hard now pull them back, you can't
so if you think about it the concept of rowing with bent arms doesn't actually make much sense because if you've got your arms bent do you think you're going to be able to push as hard as you can well your arms should straighten shouldn't they the critical thing is don't bend your arms and don't pull your shoulders back
Third thing
now this time i'm going to do the same i want you to lift your shoulders after i tell you no no no i open your body up like so row badly like that so do it now for me open up first so just open your body up yeah more more more more okay we see people row like that and now do it again for me all right okay bad way to row trust me you've all done all right so now i want you to do that when i'm taking so push as hard as you can and now open up. You can't
and so the concept of using your arms or your shoulders like bending your arms pulling your shoulders back into the sockets opening up the catch that's not what we want to do you're going to get much better bang for buck by doing it again your leg drive on first getting the boat moving accelerate against it with your body and finish with your arms that make sense.
