In racing, the ratio is one to one
okay if you've got about it's pretty
much one-to-one drive time is one second
as an example recovery time is one
second. When you're training and paddling
it's more like two and a half to one
Lyall said two, three is good because I
mean really we're really driving it it's
more like two and after one so if you've
got younger kids and the reason we've
said so what you're trying to do with
younger athletes or anyone is control of
their movement so they're moving into
the front is is controlled and set and
it's allowing the boat to come to them
instead of them going to the boat. Let
the boat come under them rather than
them going to the boat the reason we've
said not control of slide because this
is what we see with the schools in WA
control the slide control the slide
control the slide what do they end up doing
huh no they're controlling the slides
they're not belting down they're doing
exactly opposite but what are they doing
if they're controlling the slide? They're
not what? Where are they're not letting
the boat run under them where are they
not letting the boat run under them so
let's go back to the curve where's the
boat moving the quickest here where's
the coach tell them to control their
slide here should be they should
actually be actually moving a little
freer they're not holding back because
the boats actually moving under them so
coaches saying control the slide and
athletes are going I'm controlling my
slide but they're not moving with the
speed of the boat they're moving slower
than the speed of the boat they get to the
front they stop and miss water they pull
it's heavy the velocity is dropping on
them dropping on them and you must pick
it back up so the language you use is
important it's not control of slide its
move with the speed one thing the reason
people say control the slide is because
most school kids do what young school
kids they rush so the way the coach is
try and getting to stop and say control
it no control your movement and
with the speed and they'll start
understand I'm moving quicker with the speed
I'm moving quicker than the speed
because if you move too quick it's very
hard to change direction.
