As some of you may be aware there was a bid recently to have the the women's lightweight single added to the Olympic line up. It was rejected. There was also a bid to remove the men's coxed pair from the line up. This was also rejected.

"the proposal to eliminate the Men's Coxed Pair was rejected by the Congress. The Canadian proposal for adding a lightweight women's single to the Olympic programme was withdrawn."

It might help to know that there are currently 8 rowing events for men while there are only 6 rowing events for women. It's really not looking good for the International Federation of Rowing Associations they have hit both notes of sexist and outdated simultaneously. Do they really think that the men's coxed pair is a hot event. They don't even race it in Australia. Is it big in other countries?

I'm not suggesting that the women's event which is added should be the lightweight single but the boys get 2 lightweight boats don't the girls deserve another.

Please get it together FISA you are making us all look bad.

It seems as though rowing Australia and international is run by the old boys network. Surely if there is a category in our local and national rowing championships it should be included in the Olympic line up. The profile of rowing is slipping I feel, so the more people that are willing to participate the better.
